A world built of words

‘I’m 30 years old and sat celebrating with a greasy pizza and a bottle of cheap plonk.’
On her 30th birthday, Ellie Darling decides that it’s time to start a diary. Mainly as a reminder for when she’s old and living with cats that she once had a life that wasn’t all bad. Even if it was one where at 30 years of age, she still refused to spend that extra £3 on the good wine instead of chocolate.
But when the only proposal she gets from her boyfriend on Valentine’s Day is that of a threesome, she decides that enough is enough! With a new, improved job as Personal Assistant to one of the most feared Partners at her law firm – one that she doesn't seem to be able to stop dreaming about – Ellie decides that this will be her year. And if she has to run errands for her boss’ neurotic Russian girlfriend or drag her best friend to a sponsored cycle with her now gay first love, then so be it!
about the author
Ellen lives in the wonderful county of Yorkshire, England with her husband where she spends most of her time with her nose in her laptop, a book or plate of food.
Legal secretary and daydreamer by day, writer and serial tweeter by night, Ellen finally decided to put all the magic in her head to some use one day and put finger to laptop where The Story of Us was born and became her debut novel. Four novels later, the daydreams are still going strong, thankfully!
She loves to travel and enjoys taking her readers on a journey to escape with her, in whatever country or village she decides on next.
What can I say about Dear Darling other than its freaking awesome! I haven't read a book in a diary format for awhile and sometimes it just doesn't work, it falls flat, you don't relate to the characters enough, you find yourself feeling a bit short changed but Ellen Faith manages to give us a book reminiscent of Bridget Jones Diary with the inner most thoughts of leading lady Ellie Darling. Ellie Darling has a lot on her plate, as does every thirty year old woman, careers, love life, friends but Ellie has a unique outlook, a fresh voice and one hell of a sense of humour.
Now I have to say I read Dear Darling EARLY!!! I am talking really early and I have been loving Adam the hottest guy on my list right now (shush don't tell Gray he hates being in competition with fictional men) forever, he is just so god damn perfect, he ticks the boxes, he ticks ALL the boxes, handsome? YES. Smart? YES! Taken by a Russian woman who defies attainable beauty standards? Yes, sadly the main guy is taken. But with every good story isn't it how the heroine finds her way and how she finds her happy ending, yes it is!
This book is how Ellie finds her way, and in a way that we can relate to, in a way we can say I've been there, I love this concept of Dear Darling. The characters are essential and I can guarantee you will love the ensemble of characters in this story. From the leading lady to the quirky best friend to the hot boss, to office bi*ch! Get ready for a wild ride lovelies!
Dear Darling is an intimate, down right hilarious novel, fun fierce and fabulous.
I love it, I laughed till it hurt, I swooned so hard I may have whiplash and I will forever be a Ellen Faith Fan!
five stars for dear darling by ellen faith
