About The Book
So the lovely Cate Andrews asked me to review her novel Dirty Movies and I was very excited to get stuck in and let me tell you I was not disappointed. The book is in depth look at the dark side of the film industry, and as a huge fan of films and one of those people who stay up late with popcorn, wine and my boyfriend passed out on the couch ( he didnt even make it past the red carpet show on E) to watch The Oscars, I was thrilled to get another look at the glamourous hollywood world.
Polly Winters dreams of working in the film industry and when she gets that phone call offering her a job working at uber successful and legendary GBA Pictures she feels that all her dreams have come true. Enter Stephen De Vries, the director with more ego than a room full of premiership footballers, prettier too! When Polly finds that the world she has dreamed about for so long isnt all its cracked up to be. Stephen is a word I won't use on here but I will give u a clue it begins and ends with a T, yes he is that bad but god his character doesn't half make for good reading.
What I loved so much about Dirty Movies is even though it's set in this luxurious and expensive setting, its seriously relatable, yes there is private jets, red carpets and more money I earn a year spent on bar tabs but the emotion, the fears and worries the characters have are relatable, the fear and confusion Joe, Stephen's brother and 1st Ad has is honest and true and I loved how his and Polly's relationship blossoms and wilts throughout the book.
This book is spot on! For me I found myself thanking god I have as much acting skills as a dead fish. The hollywood lifestyle, the movie business is glamorized and Dirty Movies gives you so much more, real emotion, real problems, alcoholism, narcissism, stealing scripts, sleeping your way to the top, but sometimes while making a movie you can find real love and friendship, just make sure you don't have a Stephen De Vries around you!
The ensemble of characters, perfect, the premise, fantastic, Dirty Movies one hell of a read!
Thanks For Reading Lovelies
