I'm totally obsessed with this book, it's bloody brilliant, it's set in Gosthwaite, now I lived in North Yorkshire for 7 years in a pub and the way Caroline Batten brings the feeling of the small village alive is nothing short of brilliant, you really become attached to the place just as leading lady Daisy does.
Daisy Fitzgerald what a woman, just like every other woman in this world she has her issues, being divorced at 25 is one of them but she also has very deep and oh so frustrating issues that are the main obstacles she has to face. So when her Knight-in-Shining-Cricket-Pads enters her life, when she is basically at rock bottom chaos, drama and romance ensues but Xander is not what he seems and Daisy has to believe in not only him, but herself to get her happy ever after.
What I love about this book is the group of friends that are just as amazing as the main characters, James being my favourite, the stinking rich moody best friend of Xander, he is a very complex character with a story I feel really should be told *wink wink, nudge nudge* his backstory is fantastic, with real pain and a life of heartache I would love to see him find love. Marcus another of my favourites Daisy's jiminy cricket he was honest and loyal, as you read the book you really bond with the entire ensemble of characters, the rich boys, the bitchy b-list celebrities, the best friend Clara, Xander's brother Robbie everyone they really brought this book to a new level as you didn't just root for the leading characters you rooted for the supporting characters too.
Now this book contains references to a lot of sensitive subjects, drugs, alcohol, eating disorders, but this only makes the book more believable, growing up in Yorkshire myself I know there is not really much to do so imagine being stinking rich and more freedom that should be allowed, regrets are going to be made, bets are going to be taken, and sex, drugs and married woman are going to be involved.
Now to wrap up, this book is the story of a woman who really doesn't know herself quite as well as she should, a man who has over 300 regrets but when the two meet they have one hell of a battle on their hands, not only that but they have a game to play and the stakes are high, #Forfeit is a fabulous novel and I totally adore it. It's sexy, its heart warming, its honest. I cried, I laughed and I had the sudden urge to go for a hike and drink a bottle of vodka!
Fall in love with Xander, Daisy and every character in the book.
