Julie Shackman very kindly sent me a copy of Hero Or Zero, this is her second novel her first novel Rock My World A Ghostly Romance was such a superb debut I reviewed it back in May if you want to check out my review you can find it HERE. Now shall we find out a little more about Hero Or Zero!
ABOUT THE BOOK
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I trained as a journalist but writing romance has always been a dream of mine. When I’ve not got my head in a book or drafting one, I write verses and captions for greetings card companies. Writing at home seems to be incredibly difficult for me – I usually require coffee, music and noise.
My second romcom, "Hero or Zero" has just been released. “Rock My World” was my debut romcom. I’m married, have two sons and live in Scotland.
I was so excited to read Julie Shackmans next book and I was not let down in any way, I loved the premise of this book, Chloe Jones is a single mum and her life is a little bit predictable, she goes to work and dotes on her son Danny and when alone she catches up on all things Ethan Blake, Ethan is a TV heartthrob and a very good looking man indeed. So when the chance to win Ethan Black in her home for a month arises Chloe enters and wins, and so ensues chaos, love, and a few home truths.
When I first started reading this book, I was thinking that Ethan would be this tortured artistic soul who falls in love with the homely but beautiful Chloe, but Ethan doesn't come to Chloe's small scottish village alone, he comes with his agent Sean. Sean is a tall handsome broody man who unnerves Chloe and makes her feel a little bit uncomfortable.
But things arent what they seem, sometimes people aren't what they seem and ego's self belief and a total lack of compassion leads people somewhere that they never expected to be.
I love this book, its charming, relatable, Chloe is a great character dealing with motherhood, singledom and trying to become the woman she wants to be, you really grow to love her, Ethan and Sean both wonderful characters both flawed, both shaped by their childhoods but with totally different outcomes, I really enjoyed them, but I really liked Chloe's family too. I like when you also get a chance to get to know the supporting characters.
A fabulous romantic comedy that shows all that glitters is not gold!
