The Scandalous Love of a Duke
What they say:
'Isolated by life and choice, John Harding, the Duke of Pembroke, sees an angel in a pale mauve dress across a room and is drawn closer as lust grips firm and hard in his stomach.
The wheat-blonde hair escaping her dull dove-grey bonnet and caressing her neck lures his eyes to a spot he'd like to kiss.
She speaks with animation her hands moving. Then as if she senses his gaze the stranger turns and looks at him.
A rush of pain and longing spilled from Katherine's heart into her limbs. It was so long since she'd seen John but her reaction was the same as it had been more than half-a-dozen years before. She loved him, secretly, without hope, but a chasm of years and status stood between them.'
The Scandalous Love Of A Duke is the third book in the Marlow Intrigues series but this book can be read as a stand alone novel but if you're anything like me you will end up downloading the rest of the books in the series. So John who if you have read the first two books you will know that the small boy you have read about is now a dark damaged and scarred man, who's darkness consumes him.
Katherine has loved and swooned over the duke since he was a boy playing in the water with her brother, she has watched from afar for as long as she can remember until the day John returns from his travels to take over from his uncle as the Duke. John's emotions were always hidden, burried beneath his facade that he built over the years of a hard and disruptive childhood but when Katherine is around his emotions are erratic, raw and uncontrollable I love that she had that effect on him. Katherines love for the Duke is unwavering but deep down she knows that being the illegitimate daughter of a servant status and class stands between them.
The Duke knows that Katherine's love can heal the deep wounds inside of him, they are both addicted to each other, the sacrifices Katherine will make for him, whether it be her reputation or her pride doesn't matter she will willingly do it to please him.
But will John allow her inside of his heart that has been protected by a lifetime worth of emotional walls, will he put her before his pride and allow himself to heal with the love of Katherine?
I truly enjoyed this book, it was riveting and I found myself rooting for that elusive happy ending!

Jane is qualified to the equivalent of a Masters Degree in People Management and is fascinated by the things that craft people’s personalities, so she has great fun exploring these through characters. She lives in the United Kingdom near the Regency City of Bath and has just bought her 400 year old dream home. History has always tempted her imagination and she loves researching and also exploring ruins and houses to get ideas. She equally loves a love story. Jane has always aspired to writing a historical novel so when she was thirty she put it on her ‘to do before I am forty’ list. She completed her first novel ten years ago, never sent it anywhere then started the next. She’s not stopped writing since, and escaping into a mental world of fiction is a great painkiller to help fight off her Ankylosing Spondylitis.
