The List Jonna Bolouri The Review
Phoebe Henderson may be single but she sure doesn't feel fabulous. It's been a year since she found her boyfriend Alex in bed with another woman, and multiple cases of wine and extensive relationship analysis with best friend Lucy have done nothing to help. Faced with a new year but no new love, Phoebe concocts a different kind of resolution.
The List: ten things she's always wanted to do in bed but has never had the chance (or the courage!) to try. A bucket list for between the sheets. One year of pleasure, no strings attached. Simple, right?
Factor in meddlesome colleagues, friends with benefits, getting frisky al fresco and maybe, possibly, true love and Phoebe's got her work cut out for her
I have a new favourite book! I can't describe how amazing this book is but I am going to give it a go! The List is one of the most liberating. honest , hilarious books you will come across. Leading lady Phoebe Henderson is my hero, she truly is a magnificent woman, she is every woman really, all our flaws all our perfections, worries and insecurities rolled into one. Phoebe had her heart broken by Alex ( The Asshole) who is a lying cheating excuse of a man and she sets out to change herself, to make one resolution that will help her heal, become a new woman and get over Alex.
The List is born a range of sexual challenges that Phoebe has set for herself to complete but she needs a man to do them with and who better than best friend and Irish hunk Oliver, I adore Oliver I think he is just delicious, all manly and gorgeous and honest and somehow manages to explain to a woman that she has put weight on but looks better and feels better for it and I didn't even know that was possible.
Now I can go on and on about how I love the format that the book is written in, I did adore this immensely its laid out like a diary, but what I really want to say is, just go buy it, just read it for yourself and fall in love. Fall in love with the characters, the beautiful Phoebe, the crazy Lucy, the handsome Oliver, oh and Hazel, god there are so many wonderful characters with so many layers and depth its wonderful.
The story is hilarious, with a healthy amount of naughty sexual exploits, my favourite being Phoebe's attempt at talking dirty and calling Oliver "a fucking prick" during sex. Oh I laughed so hard I actually think for a minute I had transformed into a seal. What I love most about reading is when you come across a book you just can't shut up about and if you follow me on twitter for the last two days I have not shut up about The List. When you find a book that makes you laugh out loud, like for real. that is honest and relatable and that you fall instantly in love with, it stays with you only a few books do this, and only a few characters do it, for me its Bridget Jones and now its Phoebe Henderson the ballsy, confused, outrageous Phoebe Henderson who sets out on changing her life, to change her sex life, and ends up finding something she never expected to find, love!
A book that every woman should read, liberating, sexy and my favourite book of the year! So as oliver would say "lets fucking do this!" get your copy of The List today!
