About The Book!
A sometimes funny sometimes sad look at the lives of four women their families and their struggle to make ends meet. The year is 1953. Solid sensible Mary and her three sons, Susie a feisty brash blonde with two young children and a drunken useless husband, Pat a dippy young mum with a baby and a strict domineering husband and Marion a spiteful nasty piece of work with a young daughter all of them trying to get by and make their lives a bit better.
They buy a lamb with their rent money from a bloke in the pub where Susie works, cut it up and sell it making a profit and having a good meal into the bargain. They do it again and soon The Rickshaw Line is born selling anything from cuts of meat to cigarettes. Eventually the business turns to money lending and the womens lives are changed forever. The business grows and starts to run away with them. They come to the attention of the “bigger boys” due to their low rates of interest and popularity and have to fight against threats and eventually kidnapping from a shadowy character known as “The Widow” to try to hang on to their business.
Chicks That Read Opinion!
This is very dear to my heart after working with Carmel to get this done and see her story come alive! after endless days editing and formating and striving to bring a story that's different, that empowers women and makes us believe that no matter your circumstance, you can always find a way. The journey these four very different women take to creating a better life for their children & themselves is hilarious, heartwarming and beautiful. I am so proud to be apart of it! So all this month I will be promoting & ramming The Rickshaw Line down your throats but trust me its worth it!
Thanks For Reading Lovelies
